How Incubators Impact North Carolina

Incubators work! Incubators achieve positive public health outcomes for North Carolina. Together, they work to save costs to North Carolina through:

  • Increase level and effectiveness of services delivered
  • Increase the shared resources across local health departments
  • Increase equity of service delivery to Incubator & non-Incubator populations
  • Increase opportunities for health departments to solve common problems
  • Improve health outcomes across North Carolina
  • Foster innovative projects

Since their inception, Incubator Collaboratives have together leveraged $15 million in additional grant funds to improve the public's health in North Carolina

Example Incubator activities:

  • Regional, evidence-based public health interventions to address tobacco use, diabetes, HIV infection, HPV infections and cancern screening in most of the state's poorest and neediest counties
  • Internships and student learning opportunities
  • Practitioner and scholar forums
  • Grant writing training and proposal development
  • Clinical quality improvement training, assessments and practice interventions
  • Online learning and technical assistance services
  • Collective purchasing of equipment and services
  • Program evaluation trainings and technical assistance
  • Public health information technology assessments and training
  • Public health information technology requirements development, vendor selection and technology roll out
  • Dissemination of Incubator best practices and "lessons learned"
