Project develops innovative public health information technology

A proposal from NCIPH and the Cabarrus Health Alliance resulted in North Carolina being awarded one of 17 Beacon Community Demonstration Projects. Projects include the NC Health Information Portal, a data warehouse for public health information; Anna, a health education avatar; and the Daily Disease Report, a surveillance tool that targets school illness. On August 24, 37 incoming students at Gillings School of Global Public Health learned about public health practice on the Practice Pathways PHield Trip to Orange County Health Department in Hillsborough. Students participated in a public health scavenger hunt and a condom relay race. The event was organized by NCIPH and the Orange County Health Department and sponsored by the Southeast Public Health Training Center.

UNC CPHP conducts pilot training for new HIV/AIDS and syphilis electronic surveillance system

The UNC Center for Public Health Preparednesspartnered with the North Carolina Division of Public Health to develop a four-day face-to-face training curriculum on NC EDSS for NC DPH Regional Field Office staff responsible for case investigations and the reporting of HIV/AIDS and syphilis. More...
